In 1925, John T. (Jack) Hanigan and his partner Al Pruden purchased the Chevrolet franchise in Payette Idaho for $2000 (which included one automobile plus parts and tools). During the first five years Al Pruden became too sick to be an effective partner and Jack Hanigan became the sole owner just as the Great Depression was crushing the national economy. With hard work and sacrifice, the company has survived to become the longest continuously-run, family-owned Chevrolet dealer in Idaho.
Jack’s two sons, Bob and Dick, became the next generation of Hanigans to operate the dealership and today Bob’s sons Mike and Kevin carry on the family tradition.
Mike Hanigan started this business in Emmett to give a long-time valuable employee, Sally Madarieta, an opportunity to stay with the Hanigan organization but also to be closer to her parents and her hometown.
