Originally known at Martinsville, Emmett became an incorporated city in 1909. Emmett is the County Seat of Gem County.

Each town and community has a rich history and prominant place in history. Today, five distinct communities are still found in Gem County.

Emmett is the only incorporated city in Gem County and the most populated.

Letha is located west of Emmett in the Valley.

Montour once vied for prominance in the area but was flooded and today is an important Wildlife area.

Sweet is located above Black Canyon Reservoir near the base of Squaw Butte.

Ola is a mountain community rich in farming and ranching ways of life.
